SHAC/CATCH Meeting Minutes #4  2016-2017

March 27, 2017

Avery SHAC had the fourth meeting of the 2016-2017 school year on March 27, 2017 at 6:00pm in the High school library. Minutes  from the last meeting were given which included: Theme 2 of CATCH, Lifeshare presenting, the stock EpiPen protocol, The AISD health fair, the Asthma Clinic, and Community Angio Screenings and possibly a elementary family blood drive in the future.

This 9 weeks starts Theme 3 of CATCH. Individual tasks for this theme were discussed.

March is National Nutrition Month and Debra Richardson sent an information packet to share at the meeting.  She will be attending our first SHAC meeting of the 2017-2018 school year.

The Asthma clinic was held on March 2nd and March 7th. We had 26 students participate in the clinic. Several care plans were given as well as several prescriptions for medications were given to students. We will be attending a banquet this summer to receive a grant check from the asthma clinic. With this money from this year the plan is to get the AED by the playground up and running and pay for the 2017-2018 EKG screenings for the 7-12 grade students. This EKG clinic will be held at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year.

The Health Fair was held on Thursday March 9, 2017 6-8 in the cafeteria during the Open House. We had about 20 booths that attended and gave some great health and wellness information to our students. We gave out flyers about an upcoming Wadley Angio Screening clinic date for April 4, 2017. This clinic is open to staff members and community members. The cost is $32.00 that can be paid by cash, check, or credit card.

2016-2017 SHAC Recommendations-

  1. Continue to implement the CATCH- Coordinated health program and curriculum for the 2017-2018 school year.
  2. Continue with the implementation of the current Wellness Policy for the 2017-2018 school year.

The floor was open for discussion. No new topics were discussed at this time.

The meeting was adjourned the next regular SHAC meeting will be held once we get back from summer break in the 2017-2018 school year. The SHAC minutes and recommendations for the 2016-2017 school year will be presented at an upcoming board meeting.
