Student Safety

March 07, 2018

Avery ISD is committed to the safety and security of students, staff and visitors on its campuses.

The district enacted a Shelter-in-Place this afternoon as a precautionary measure based on a possible threat.

The students, staff and building were not under immediate threat. Procedure and protocols were followed and the Red River County Sheriff’s department were contacted.

To help parents and community understand the difference, we have included definitions below:

Shelter-In-Place: Students and staff stay inside the buildings or get to their classrooms if outside the building. Instruction and activities continue where possible.

Lock-Down: Students and staff lock themselves into classrooms and remain out of sight of windows.

Avery ISD is continuing with all activities including after school practices.
