School Health Advisory Council Updates

October 14, 2014

The Avery School Health Advisory Council met for their first meeting on September 24, 2014 at 4:30.
 
Items discussed in the meeting included:
  • Students hearing/vision screens being done this semester 
  • Food Allergy and EpiPen training for our staff members
  • Flu Shot Clinic on October 1st for staff, students, and the community
  • Upcoming hand washing training for the Elementary students in October/November

New ideas to look into included:  

  • Free health screenings by Christus St. Michael
  • Angio/Carotid screenings by Wadley
  • Asthma evaluation and training by Christus St. Michael and Genesis Prime Care
  • Shadowing programs for those students interested in jobs in the health care field
  • Funding for glasses for children from VPS/Eastern Star/Lions Club
  • Red Ribbon Week Abstinence/Safety/Drugs

The Next Meeting was set for December 3, 2014 from 5:30-6:30. We Hope that more parents and community members will be able to make it to the next meeting.

 
The Avery ISD Flu Shot Clinic put on by Clarksville Medicine chest went very well. Over 60 students/staff members were vaccinated. There were also many community members who came to receive vaccines. Vaccines that were administered were Influenza, Shingles, Tdap, Pneumonia, and Meningococcal.
