LETTER TO PARENTS

December 17, 2013

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Thank you for sending your child(ren) to Avery ISD.  You entrust us with your greatest possession, your kids.  Avery ISD wants all students to be able to learn in a safe and secure environment in every classroom.  I want to encourage you to notify your campus principal if your child is experiencing any problems at school.  Whether the problems are student oriented or more classroom/staff specific, the administration wants to address each and every concern.

The district has in place several ways for both students and parents to express concerns, both in person and anonymously.  Personal school visits with teachers and the campus principals concerning your child(ren) are highly encouraged.  If you are unable to do so, you may always call the campus.  Contact numbers are located at the top of this page.   You may also use the STOP.WALK.TALK reporting system, with a link located at the top of our website (www.averyisd.net).

We highly encourage face-to-face visits, and you are always welcome to come to school to discuss any and all concerns you may have.  In addition, you should be able to do so without fear of retaliation of any kind toward your child.  I ensure you that Avery ISD will fully investigate all concerns brought forth and take necessary action according to board policy and law.  Retaliation will not be tolerated at any level.  Please keep in mind that the administration can only address issues of which we are aware.  The principals cannot be in every classroom all the time, so if situations are not reported to principals, those incidents not only go undetected but more importantly are not corrected.

STOP.WALK.TALK is our electronic bullying reporting system.  The person filling in the report can choose to give his/her name or remain anonymous.  Both students and parents can use this system.  You may use this system to report any incident, not just bullying. When using this system, please give us plenty of specifics so that we are able to adequately investigate the incident.

In addition, the district will be launching an electronic needs assessment survey concerning several topics.  When available, links will be found on the front page of our website (www.averyisd.net) as well as on our Facebook page.  We would appreciate your time and honest responses to our survey.

The administration sincerely wants a culture and an environment in which students enjoy coming to school and have every opportunity to learn and grow in a supportive environment.  No system is perfect, but we want to strive to be just that.  We can only succeed with your help, including notifying us of any concerns that may arise.  It truly does take a village to raise our children and the school needs you.  Let’s work together to help our students, staff, and community grow and succeed.

Our Sincerest Appreciation,
