Avery ISD Rated "Superior Achievement" for 2008-2009

District Earns State's Highest Fiscal Accountability Rating

by Natasha Blackburn

September 03, 2010

For the eighth year, Avery ISD has earned Texas Education Agency's (TEA's) highest fiscal accountability rating:  Superior Achievement.  This final 2010 School FIRST (Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas) rating was based upon an analysis of staff and student data reported for the 2008-2009 school year and budgetary and actual financial data for the 2009 fiscal year (the period ended August 31, 2009).  Notification of this rating follows Texas Education Agency's release of preliminary ratings in June 2010.  All stakeholders may access the final School FIRST ratings from TEA's web site at www.tea.state.tx.us/.

The district will hold a public meeting in conjunction with it's regular monthly school board meeting on September 27, 2010, at 6:30 p.m.  At that meeting, Avery ISD will distribute a financial management report that explains the district's rating and its performance under each of the 22 indicators for the current and prior year.  The financial management report will also include disclosure of reimbursements to the superintendent and board of trustees members for the 2008-2009 school year, as well as a copy of the current superintendent's contract (also available on our district web site).  The district will report additional information that will be beneficial to taxpayers, especially information explaining any special circumstances that may have affected the district's performance under one or more of the indicators.

Under current law, TEA takes into consideration a district's School FIRST rating when assigning an accreditation status.  Additionally, a district's final School FIRST rating may impact its special education determination status as issued by the TEA Division of Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Coordination under the requirements of 34 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) ยง300.608(a).
