July 11, 2008
The Avery High School Cheerleaders recently returned from a National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) summer camp. The camp was held at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and attracted over 200 cheerleaders from the surrounding areas.
The National Cheerleaders Association selects award winners at each of the 1,000 camps it administers around the world each summer. Founded in 1948 by L.R. Herkimer, NCA has been conducting camps for 60 years and holds events annually for 150,000 cheerleaders around the world.
The Avery High School Cheerleaders received several awards at the National Cheerleaders Association summer camp. These awards include being awarded the spirit stick each day of camp and receiving outstanding, excellent, and superior ribbons for their camp cheer and chant. The spirit stick is a highly coveted award given to those squads which show the most sincere spirit and enthusiasm throughout the entire week of camp.
