Resource Students and TAKS

Grades 3-6

by Ann Stephenson

January 17, 2008

All the students in grades third, fourth, fifth and sixth will take a grade level TAKS test. The third grade will take Reading and Math.  If they do not pass the first test, they will be given two more chances to pass these tests. The fourth grade will take Reading, Math and Writing. The fifth grade will take Reading, Math, and Science. They also must pass the Reading and Math.  If they do not, they will be given two other chances to pass these tests. Sixth grade will take Reading and Math.

It is important that you encourage your child to read some every night. This will help with their fluency and vocabulary. Please take some time and listen to them and ask them some questions about what they have read. This will help them with comprehension, which is very important to passing these TAKS test. They also need to continue to study their multiplication facts so they can recall them easily.

We have been working hard all year to prepare students for these test. The students have working hard, also. Please help us by taking time to do some things at home to help your child. This will help all of us when the day comes to take the TAKS.

If you have any questions please call me or come by the school. The school number is 903-684-3116. My conference period is from 12:15 until 1:00.
